Job Description

This intervention trial will evaluate the efficacy of daily consumption of micronutrient fortified rice (fortified with iron, vitamin B12 and folic acid) in 6- 11- year- old school going children and their mothers with iron deficiency. The study will be implemented in Koppel district of Karnataka (500 kms from Bangalore) over a period of two years to ascertain the effect of micronutrient fortified rice in improving iron stores, micronutrient status and reduce the prevalence of iron deficiency. SJRI research staff will travel every fortnight to the study site (Koppel) and interact with the field staff to monitor progress on all aspects based on set time points as per standardized operational protocols and guidelines to collect, update and finalize required data via detailed interviews, screen and select children for randomization, oversee monthly household distribution of micronutrient fortified rice, collection, analysis and storage of blood biochemistry, dietary recalls, anthropometry, monitoring of adverse events, record monthly consumption and compliance. This study will provide an understanding to the local acceptability of the fortified rice along with vital data on the safety and stability aspects of the micronutrient fortified rice which will be crucial for policy decisions prior to large scale distribution of fortified rice through national and state programs. Core Responsibilities: The Program Manager will be supervised by the Principal Investigators. The incumbent will be responsible for managing the daily operations of all study administration and coordination of the field activities. Key Skills: Previous experience supervising a component of a research team Outstanding interpersonal communication skills Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision Handling budgets and other project- related financial tasks Good working knowledge of MS Office Highly organized and detail oriented Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule Ability to communicate fluently in Kannada and English Supervise all project staff, including those involved in recruitment, enrolment, delivery and evaluation of the intervention, data collection, data entry and data management in coordination with the PI Arrange and lead weekly supervision meetings with the senior staff and monthly all- staff meetings Ensure timely adherence to the study protocol, quality control procedures and human subjects protection Coordinate trainings for medical officers and primary healthcare Centre staff on- site Oversight of office management and maintenance of all project- specific files and on- site human ethics paperwork and correspond with the Indian Government and regulatory bodies and the St. John’s ethical review board Handle the logistics of DSMB and death reports, under the supervision of the PI Oversee the budget, coordinate with partners to maintain subcontract and accounting per protocols established for reimbursement of staff and participant expense Manage project payroll and benefits, maintain attendance of project staff, handle staff recruitment procedures Write regular project reports with consultation from the PI to provide partners with project information for grant management and reporting requirements In addition, you may be called upon to assume responsibility and undertake specific activities not stated above, but within the mandate of this job, based on greater clarity of the requirements that emerges with time and associated with any revision of the Institute / Project s procedures
